Cake Decorating Roses

Everyone knows that cake decorating roses add life to every occasion. If you want to bake a cake and would like to make some cake decorating roses, here are some of the things you need to do:

  • If you plan to make cake decorating roses, you will need to use: gum paste, cornstarch, cake dummy, flower foam pad, ball or dogbone tool, rose petal cutters in different sizes (you can get these in your local cake supply store), fondant adhesive, toothpicks, a small rolling pin, small plastic bag, white vegetable fat and small spatula.
  • In order to make a cone, you will need to roll your gum paste, use a rolling pin to thinly spread the paste. Cake decorating roses should be delicate in appearance. Anything that could resemble a bulk is definitely out of the question. When making cake decorating roses, be careful not to break the petals; since you have rolled the gum paste thinly, you will need to use the petal cutters to make the shape and a dogbone tool to remove the petal from the paste. Get two rose petals and put them in a plastic bag. This prevents them from drying out.
  • The next step in making your cake decorating roses is to shape the cone. Get a toothpick and put them on the cake dummy.  Use the other petals to shape the cone. Remember that the cone should be smaller than the petal cutter that you will use.
  • To make the cake decorating roses look like a real flower, you will need to take your fondant adhesive to coat the cone. Then you will wrap it with a petal around it. Make sure that the end; or, the pointed part of the rose cone is well-covered.
  • After that, get the two petals you have kept and use some adhesive to apply on the, Wrap the petals around the cone; make sure that the petals overlap each other. Good cake decorating roses must not look stiff. You will have to arrange the look of the petals to make them look real.
  • For bigger cake decorating roses, you will need to do the same procedure. Although this time, you will need to use bigger rose petals for the cone. When you make big cake decorating roses, you will have to use some cornstarch to help not stick to each other when you dry them. You will also need to use flower foam when making big cake decorating roses to avoid the petals from breaking.
